About Lavie Tidhar

Lavie Tidhar (Hebrew: לביא תדהר; born 16 November 1976) is an Israeli-born writer, working across multiple genres. He has lived in the United Kingdom and South Africa for long periods of time, as well as Laos and Vanuatu. As of 2013, Tidhar has lived in London. His novel Osama won the 2012 World Fantasy Award—Novel, beating Stephen King's 11/22/63 and George R. R. Martin's A Dance with Dragons. His novel A Man Lies Dreaming won the £5000 Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize, for Best British Fiction, in 2015. He won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel in 2017, for Central Station and received the Philip K. Dick Award Special Citation, for The Escapement, in 2022. Maror won the prestigious Deutscher Krimi Preis in 2025 for Best International Crime novel.

From October 2019 to August 2022, Tidhar, along with Silvia Moreno-Garcia, was the science fiction and fantasy columnist for The Washington Post. The two had previously edited The Jewish Mexican Literary Review together, an online magazine which ran for 3 issues. Since 2023 he has been writing short animated films for director Nir Yaniv under their shared label, Positronish. With Jared Shurin he edits Shelfies, a newsletter dedicated to celebrating the books on people's shelves.
