It is the 1980s and Ray has been hopscotching from one blue collar flying job to another for a few years. He lands in Miami where ragtag outfits are flying prop transports long past their expiration dates. A mysterious buccaneer offers eighteen thousand bucks to deliver some crates of "don't ask" cargo to an unnamed South American country. Ray asks if this is legal and is told "Yes, long as the right side wins." This is a picaresque novel full of characters you want to hang out with. Corrosion Corner was a real place and time where the propliners made obsolete by the jet age were saved from the scrapyard to fly one last decade by a rogues' gallery of misfit pilots. Filled with detailed flying sequences in Lockheed Constellations and Douglas DC-6s, this book is an easy-listening visit with some well-rounded, offbeat characters.
