The house is waking—whispers in the stairwell, a plaque that shines with unspoken scripture, a painting that answers back. And Robert’s sleep is no longer his own. Dreams carry him into another life: a gardener’s orphan named Jacob, a girl at an upstairs window, and an escape purchased with blood. In London, a waitress named Jenny steals a book from men who wear crimson robes and serve an older order. Together with Robert’s school friend Charlie—a scholar with a liar’s grin—they stumble onto a ledger of pledges, a star that isn’t a star, and a chalice that never stays empty for long.
