En præst ville aldrig afsløre en hemmelighed fortalt i religiøst regi, men Thomas er jo ikke præst. Da den gamle hemmelighed trækker tråde til nutiden kommer Thomas i et stort dilemma. Dick Francis (1920-2010) var en britisk forfatter og jockey. Efter sin succesfulde karriere i hestevæddeløb og -træning dedikerede han sig til fiktionen og skrev sammen med sin kone utallige spændingsromaner i eget navn. Alle hans bøger drejer sig på den ene eller anden måde om personer i jockeybranchen.
