Bringing Evelyn E. Smith’s public domain works to life again, after a publication lapse of nearly three quarters of a century, has been a passion project for us. The satire and symbolism of her work is as relevant today as when these tales were written, in the latter decade of the 1950’s. Then, her stories and novellas were categorized as futuristic fantasy (or gothic romance, in some cases) for a relatively small market. One senses in her writing that Ms. Smith was creating her fiction more to amuse herself than to leave any lasting legacy — though she most certainly did so. We are of the opinion that some of the world’s best and most enduring art is created in that simple pursuit of an inspiring story — in any genre or any fine art form. It’s time for Ms. Smith’s fabulously funny and thought-provoking pieces to be enjoyed by a new generation.- The Editors at Unforgotten Book, 2024
