The Torus Inheritance chronicles the desperate survival and ultimate evolution of humanity following the "Scorch," a cataclysm that reduced Earth to a blackened, uninhabitable wasteland. Led by visionary architect Rick Grice, the remnants of the human race live within a flotilla of 25 rotating Stanford Torus habitats—massive, donut-shaped structures designed to provide artificial gravity and simulated daylight through complex, non-rotating mirror systems. The fragile peace of this orbital life is shattered when a swarm of rogue asteroids—debris from the original Earth cataclysm—threatens to destroy the habitats. Faced with certain extinction and no viable way to return to the surface, Rick Grice spearheads the "Nexus Initiative," a radical plan to consolidate the 25 rings into a single, massive, rotating sphere capable of surviving a jump into deep space.
