Vicente Canchola has recently inherited his father's wealthy estate, but is being deceived by the devious Pedro Morelos into being robbed of his fortune. His sister, the beautiful Panchita, seeks the assistance of Zorro (whom many suppose dead). The foppish Don Diego Vega, not long a widower, attempts to court Panchita with poetry, although her brother is trying to marry her off to Morelos. When it is reported that Zorro has been sighted, Captain Quintero resolves to pursue and capture the outlaw. Morelos and his henchman, Jose Hernandez, hatch a plot to kidnap the Governor of California and force him to grant them trade concessions by which they will profit handsomely. Zorro overhears them as they plan, but will he be able to evade capture, foil their evil scheme and stop the Canchola estate from falling into their hands?
