The Revolutionary is the story of Weldon, a young working-class man caught up in the revolutionary fervor of the late '60's. In a Chicago riot Weldon runs over a policeman and successfully escapes with a couple of committed anarchists while tripping on acid. Weldon escapes from the two and attempts to retire from the revolution. It turns out to be a bigger cultural reality of drugs and sex than anticipated. The philosophy of anarchy and hedonism so powerfully attractive during the era led Weldon on to more fear and isolation. This book falls into place with The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, capturing what sorts of decisions face young men in times of war.
