About The Martian Shore: Abandoned To Die On Mars

Robbo Shaan is not condemned to die by the Imperial Government of Mars. He is condemned to live without permission. Branded as a traitor for believing in democracy, he is abandoned in the open desert with no oxygen, no map, and no right to be helped. Any citizen who sees him is legally required to shoot him on sight. The law has done its work cleanly, leaving nature and neighbors to finish the job. What follows is not a chase, but an ordeal measured in minutes of air, inches of shelter, and choices that cannot be undone. Mars is not an empty backdrop here. It presses in from every direction, from the thin sky above to the strange life beneath a man’s feet. Shaan discovers that survival does not always belong to those who stand upright, carry weapons, or claim authority. Sometimes it belongs to those willing to crawl, hide, and rethink what a future is supposed to look like. As Shaan crosses paths with settlers who still believe in the system that condemned him, the story tightens into something more unsettling than escape. Every decision he makes creates a cost that cannot be paid by him alone. The question is no longer whether he can stay alive, but what kind of life he is creating, and who will be forced to share it with him. Charles L. Fontenay was known for writing science fiction that treated politics as lived experience rather than distant theory. His stories often place ordinary people inside rigid systems and then remove the protections those systems promise. “The Martian Shore” stands out as one of his most severe thought experiments, stripping civilization down to breath, ground, and choice, and asking what remains when institutions fail but life goes on.
