In this volume, you will find three of Campbell’s classic novellas. The first is The Voice of the Void, which is the shortest of the three, and is a story of cosmic horror about a space crew that hears a “voice,” which threatens their very sanity. They must decide whether they should embrace, or escape this mysterious voice. The second story is When the Atoms Failed, which is set in a world where atomic power drives the majority of machinery. A mysterious and destructive phenomenon wreaks havoc, causing atomic energy to become unstable, and results in a massive societal collapse as all technology is shut down. Our hero embarks on a quest to understand and stop this disaster. Lastly, we have The Metal Horde, which tells the story of Aarn Munro, a young and brilliant engineer, and his crew as they face a relentless invasion of robotic beings from outer space. “The Metal Horde,” as these invading aliens are known, are brutal, incredibly smart, and seem unstoppable. They seem capable of destroying the world and killing everyone on it. Munro and his team come together to fight this horde, and save the world.
