He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948, for his outstanding, pioneer contribution to present-day poetry. He breathed his last in 1965 with Life magazine concluding with the phrase – 'Our age beyond any doubt has been, and will continue to be, the Age of Eliot.'
