In a human lab behind locked doors and bulletproof glass, a group of scientists works on a covert project. They keep from forming personal contacts and even avoid knowing each other’s names. Together they refine the virus set loose on the world. The goal is simple: eliminate all creatures. In a bar hidden from human sight, a secret meeting reveals a startling reality: a mysterious illness is killing creatures. All creatures with genetic markers are falling ill, and many of them are dying. Even humans with genetic traits are not immune to the effects. The nature of the illness feels too targeted to be natural. And one late night in a lab reveals the engineered genome of the virus. The race is on.
