If it had not been for our brothers from a distant sister world over a thousand light years distant, the consequences of compromise that came upon us so suddenly may have been far more dire. Theirs was not to intervene, but to guide and mentor. Their biting chastisement at times was partly just who they were, but also a long suffering, watching us unseen for so many centuries, fall deeper into the chasms that form when good men fail in their responsibility to stand guard against evil men. Then, suddenly, the Transition. The Transition is a time like no other in history, and every sentient world must endure it to become Kindred, a shared brotherhood of worlds that have endured.
