Along with the other pilots and airmen of Air Group 18, he played a part in winning some of the greatest naval air battles of World War II - Coron Bay, Formosa (Taiwan), Leyte, Luzon and many others. Forsyth flew Helldivers and Corsairs for the US Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was awarded the Navy Cross, the Silver Star, three Distinguished flying Crosses and four Air Medals. After discharge from the Navy, he attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1948. He has since practiced law in the Rochester, New York and Naples, Florida areas.
