A Kappa is a Japanese water spirit, often depicted as a small, humanoid creature with a turtle-like shell and mischievous intent. Sometimes deadly intent. Jennifer Levy didn’t believe in them though. Kappas were a stupid myth her cousin used to frighten her with as a kid; a story she hadn’t thought about in years. Not until she shared the legends with a young boy named Dale Oberman. Not long after, Dale went missing, and two teens that Jennifer argued with were brutally violated by an unknown assailant at a lake party. These events point to Jen as a suspect. When a cucumber—a kappa’s favorite food—is found at a new crime scene, Jen realizes the mystery is supernatural and the myth of the kappa may be real.
