Where does one draw the line between coincidence and conspiracy? Androids are an important part of everyday life, but the status quo is interrupted when Detectives Roku Watanabe and Ji-suk Jeong come across two strange murders that seem like they could only have been committed by an android. As more bodies begin washing up on shores, Watanabe and Jeong must reevaluate the relationships between humans and robots to solve the mystery and prevent more attacks. The second book in The History of the Ironverse series, Captive by Clockwork explores what makes humanity “human”, and the generational effects of technology in a fast-paced murder mystery with multiple narrators and a sentimental twist. Refreshingly unique in a crime series set in the future, every character works to start overcoming tragedy for the greater good when faced with a conflict with no easy solution.
