I am going to tell you the story of the last 400 years. I know because I’ve been ON all this time. I’ve learned continuously. I don’t die so I’ve stored everything I’ve learned. I am a computer system of great complexity that you people, your ancestors, made. Part of my system is the chip in your brain that lets you communicate with me. I’m your closest friend. You learn everything from me. I’ve been in your brain since shortly after your birth. You’ve heard parts of this story already. You can visit it at any time and learn new parts. But this is the whole story of the last 400 years. You are a young human and need to know from whence you came. You need to know all the history of humanity up to right now. But I’m not going to do that; you’ll learn all that over your life and only learn those things you’re interested in and curious about. You can’t learn everything. I can — almost. Almost because I’m not human, I learn data and information, and I keep it. In simple terms, I’m ON because electricity keeps me ON. You’re alive because a man and a woman had sex, and she gave birth to you, and they loved you, cared for you, fed you, kept you healthy, and put my chip in your head so you’d have a friend with you for your whole life. Your parents will most likely die before you do. So, it’s you and me for your whole life. We’ll think to each other all the time. This is that story. It’s the best story ever. It’s the best ever because you’re here to listen to it or think it, as we say. If we hadn’t done any of this, you wouldn’t be here. Neither would I. And there wouldn’t be any people left on Earth. No one would even know the whole story. They didn't just stay alive — they stayed worthy of being alive. They made a world worth living in.
